Werder Bremen’s current situation is anything but comfortable. With just 13 points to their credit going into the eleventh match of the season, the Green-Whites find themselves trailing back in tenth place in the Bundesliga table. The plan now is to carefully manoeuvre their way out of this difficult phase. The initial plan is now to lay the groundwork for the return to form this Saturday, 04.11.2008, at the Weser Stadium against Hertha BSC Berlin by collecting all three points.
“At the moment we have neither the rhythm nor the stability that we need. We must see to it that we approach the upcoming tasks in concentrated and improved fashion,” demanded Werder coach Thomas Schaaf with a view to the clash with the club from the capital. Hertha themselves have quite an impressive away record this season. From five games on the road, Hertha took all three points on three occasions. In addition, they are also four games without defeat – Werder are three games without a win! It’s really a case of opposing worlds colliding on Saturday.
“They’ve hit a run at a good time and are forcing their way through their games successfully,” warned Schaaf, who is very wary of the Berlin club’s strength on the break: “They are not just going to launch everything into attack, they will stand compact as a team. But they have the ability to hit quickly on the break. For all the work we do going forward, we are going to have to be wary when Berlin counter attack.” Should Werder achieve their goals at the weekend, it could prove a very important step out of the current rut.
