Clemens Fritz has extended his current contract with Werder Bremen. The German international signed the three year deal, to keep him at the club until 30.06.2012, prior to the Bundesliga game against Hannover 96 on Saturday, 25.10.2008. General manager Klaus Allofs commented on the contract extension with the 27 year old: “Clemens is a very important player for Werder and during his time here he even made the leap into the German national team. He is not just a very important figure on the pitch but fits in here perfectly as a character.”
Head-coach Thomas Schaaf was equally delighted about continuing his work with Fritz: “Clemens has taken phenomenal steps forward in his development over the past two years. We are very happy to be continuing our work together with him because we are well aware that he can develop yet further still.”
“I signed on here for three years because I want to win trophies as a Werder player. Unfortunately that hasn’t quite worked out so far. I am still quite convinced that Bremen is the right place for me to be if I wish to fulfil my goals and that we can achieve them together,” commented the German international after completing the signing of his new deal with the club. Since his move to the Weser in summer 2006, the right full back has made 62 Bundesliga appearances for the Green-Whites and 22 in the national team.
