Frustration and perplexity still reigns supreme amongst the Werder players on the day after their unbelievable 3-3 draw with BVB: “If we knew exactly what the problem was, we wouldn’t have already conceded 19 goals this season,” noted Sebastian Boenisch: “You could certainly discuss carelessness and stupidity! We have dropped far too many points of late,” added Torsten Frings on Sunday morning.

Whilst the players who were involved on Saturday went through a light programme on Sunday morning, Thomas Schaaf went through the usual programme with the rest of the team. There were a number of first choice players missing from training: “Diego and Naldo both went for treatment today but will be back in training tomorrow. Unfortunately Daniel Jensen won’t be fit to play against Panathinaikos on Wednesday,” explained the coach. Jensen has been suffering with an Achilles tendon problem for some time now and after the game against Dortmund, the problem flared again.”

Markus Rosenberg, who was unable to take part against BVB due to a muscle sinew tear, was back in full team training again on Sunday and would appear to be ready for the Champions League clash with Panathinaikos in Athens on Wednesday.

Following the Sunday session, Clemens Fritz and Torsten Frings headed off to lend the Werder women’s team their support as they took on the ladies from FCR Duisburg in the DFB Cup.
