Although a number of Werder’s international stars are still away on duty with their respective nations, trainer Thomas Schaaf had 14 players together on Tuesday at training for the first time since the international break – and the coach made use of the numbers at hand. “There were enough players here again today for us to work on some tactical things. Over the past couple of weeks there was no point in doing that due to the lack of available players,” explained Schaaf, who had focused on what he described as “Individual aspects” over the past few days.
The coach was once again without Markus Rosenberg and Jurica Vranjes at today’s session. Whilst Vranjes undertook some light jogging, Rosenberg was unable to participate in any manner: “He has a muscle sinew tear and we will have to wait and see if he will be fit again by the weekend,” said Schaaf, who will only begin to consider alternatives to the Swedish striker when he has his complete squad together again.
At the moment, Boubacar Sanogo is raring to go: “Of course he presents an alternative. He is determined and in regular training. It was good for him to play internationally and of course that he scored two goals. I hope he continues where he left off,” concluded Schaaf.
