Werder Bremen striker Boubacar Sanogo enjoyed a very successful weekend on duty in his homeland with the Ivory Coast national team. In the World Cup qualifier at the Champroux Stadium in Abidjan against Madagascar, the Green-Whites front man scored his sides first two goals (42’ / 55’) in an eventual 3-0 win. Sanogo’s strike partner, Salomon Kalou from FC Chelsea scored ‘The Elephants’ third (66’).

The win ensures that the Ivory Coast are winners of Group 7 and Sanogo, Kalou & Co. can now look forward to the draw for the third qualifying round. The winners of the second round groups, as well as the eight best runners-up, will progress to the third round of World Cup qualifiers where the twenty teams will be broken into five groups of four, with all games being played over two legs.
