The draw for the round of the last sixteen in the DFB-Cup, with the games due to be played on 27 /28.01.2009, has thrown up a very special tie for the Green-Whites. On Sunday afternoon, German women’s international Kerstin Garefrekes made the draw live on German television and pitted Werder Bremen against Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund. Just like last season, this time around the Green-Whites will again have the daunting task of a trip to the Signal Iduna Park. On the last occasion, BVB eliminated Thomas Schaaf’s side with a 2-1 win on 29.01.2008.

For Werder coach Schaaf, the draw presents an “Exceptional constellation”. Schaaf continued “The same opponent, in the same round exactly one year later. That could prove a very interesting match. It’s certainly one of the most exciting pairings in the round. We gathered some experience there last year, we played well and were unlucky to be eliminated. We’ll be trying to do things better this time around. It’s just a pity that Dortmund don’t have to come to the Weser Stadium.”

The complete draw for the games to be played on 27./28.01.2009 is:

Borussia Dortmund - Werder Bremen, VfB Stuttgart – FC Bayern Munich, SC Freiburg – FSV Mainz 05, Leverkusen – Energie Cottbus, Hamburger SV – 1860 Munich, Karlsruher SC – SV Wehen Wiesbaden, VfL Wolfsburg – Hansa Rostock, Carl- Zeiss Jena – FC Schalke 04-
