For Germany’s up-coming World Cup qualifying games on 11.10.2008 against Russia in Dortmund and on 15.10.2008 against Wales in Mönchengladbach, Werder Bremen will once again be represented by four players, with Torsten Frings, Clemens Fritz, Per Mertesacker and Tim Wiese all having been called into trainer Joachim Löw’s 22 man squad. The players will gather in Dusseldorf on Tuesday, October 7th to prepare for the qualifiers on the road to South Africa in 2010.
Whilst the out-field trio were somewhat less than surprised by the nominations, goalkeeper Tim Wiese had to admit at the end of training on Friday afternoon: “I only just found out about it now reading the tele-text. I’m delighted about the nomination and intend to put in a super performance in training.” For Frings and Mertesacker it is their first call-up to the national team since their successful participation at the European Championships.
