Referee Thorsten Kinhöfer will be the man in black for this Saturday’s Bundesliga clash between FC Bayern Munich and Werder Bremen. When the two sides last clashed in Munich on 10.02.2008, in a game which finished in a 1-1 draw, the 40 year old was the man with the whistle on that occasion too. The tennis and card playing enthusiast began his career in 1994 and rose to Bundesliga status in 2002. He has so far refereed 93 games in Germany’s top flight, including the recent 2-2 draw between FC Bayern and HSV.
Since 2006, the professional controller from Wanne-Eickel, has been an official FIFA referee. In recent years Kinhöfer has also refereed games in Qatar, South Korea and Saudi Arabia. So far the referee has crossed paths with the Green-Whites on ten occasions – and the balance is a positive one for Werder with seven wins, just two defeats and that 1-1 draw in Munich in February to note.
