Werder’s midfield duo of Torsten Frings and Aaron Hunt have had to pull out of involvement with their respective national teams this week. Frings, who has made 77 appearances for his country, informed the German national team coach Joachim Löw following the game in Bielefeld.
“I had some muscular problems during the week. With the strain of the match, the grievances rared-up again and after speaking to Joachim Löw, we decided that I shouldn’t take any risks and instead go through the rehabilitation programme in Bremen,” explained the 31 year old on Saturday evening. The German national team will take on Belgium in a friendly game in Nuremburg on Wednesday, 20.08.2008 (kick-off 9pm).
There was bad news on the international front for Aaron Hunt too. The young winger suffered a muscle sinew tear to his calf in the game against Arminia Bielefeld and has had to pull out of Germany’s U21 European Championship qualifier against Moldova on Tuesday, 19.08.2008. As a replacement, trainer Dieter Eilts has nominated a further Werder player with Mesut Özil filling in for Hunt.
