Werder Bremen consider their requirements attaining to the release of Diego for the Olympic Games as having been fulfilled, according to a statement made by Klaus Allofs on Monday evening. The clubs general manager, who again held further negotiations over the past few days as to how Werder would be compensated in the event of Diego suffering an injury during the Olympic competition, said: “After discussions with the DFB (German Football Federation), we were assured that we would not incur any financial disadvantage in such an event, but we all hope that doesn’t become an issue. We are satisfied with the solution which has now been agreed to.”
Werder Bremen are also now refraining from issuing a further complaint against the Brazilian Football Federation, for the time being, although the South Americans have still not made contact with the club: “We are quite upset about their behaviour,” admitted Klaus Allofs, who has not cancelled out the possibility of issuing further demands should there be any change in the current situation: “You can’t eliminate that possibility. All clubs who are releasing players must be treated equally. If other clubs receive release fees or other such payments, then we will also be staking our claim.”
