The club:
The ‘fB’ in Esbjerg fB stands for “forenede Boldklubber”, which roughly translates as ‘United Ball Club’. Aside from football, EfB also play ice-hockey and even won the Danish ice-hockey championship in 2004.
Current situation:
Just as in 2006, this summer Esbjerg crumbled in the cup final after having won five away ties on the trot and then eliminating Danish giants FC Copenhagen at the semi-final stage. Esbjerg were narrowly beaten 3:2 by Bröndby in the final. In the national league EfB landed in seventh place for the second season in succession. After four games so far this season though, EfB find themselves second from bottom of the ‘SAS-Ligaen’ with just two points to their credit.
The record against Werder
Almost exactly a year ago, Werder played their final pre-season friendly against Esbjerg on the island of Fünen. 3,100 spectators saw a game which finished 1:1 after Mikkelsen had put the Danes in front and Boubacar Sanogo equalised for Werder.
