Following their competitive start in the Bundesliga season, Werder Bremen will play a further friendly game. On Wednesday, 27.08.2008 at 7pm, the five-time Champions League participants will travel to Saxony to play the tradition steeped club 1.FC Lok Leipzig.
The game against the non-league side will be held at the ‘Leipziger-Zentralstadion’: “We are aware that we have a lot of supporters in the region of Leipzig and Saxony. With that in mind, we chose to accept the invitation from 1.FC Lok Leipzig,” said Werder’s general manager Klaus Allofs and added with a grin: “Aside from anything else, we have fond memories of the ‘Leipziger Zentralstadion’ and are quite happy to return there.” It was at that particular venue that Werder Bremen beat FC Bayern Munich in 2006, in front of 41,000, fans to take the League Cup thanks to an Ivan Klasnic brace.
