Those who have purchased the new WERDER magazine ‘Spezial’, with all the player profiles and detailed interviews with the general manager Klaus Allofs and coach Thomas Schaaf, will most probably have noticed something unusual. In the player presentation, defender Dusko Tosic’s glowing smile has snuck in between Naldo and team captain Frank Baumann.
And not without reason! From the coming season, the 23 year old will don the number 5 jersey in place of the number 13, which he had worn until now. The Serb has inherited the new squad number from Pierre Wome, who is now at 1.FC Köln. For Tosic personally it is more than just a change of number but also a symbol of what he sees as his chance at a new start on the Weser: “I’m heading into the season with new valour,” remarked the left full-back.
With the exception of the 5:1 win over FC Hansa Rostock, at which point he was on his way to join up with the Serbian Olympic selection in Shanghai, Tosic was involved in all of the pre-season friendly games. General manager Klaus Allofs has also been following the positive developments expectantly: “Dusko has made advances during the pre-season preparations. He’s coming to terms with things better now. He understands what is needed in the Bundesliga.” The Serbs determined performances in training and in the friendly games were rewarded with his first goal for Werder Bremen.
