Harnik slightly twisted his knee during the friendly game against FC St. Gallen. Head coach Thomas Schaaf commented on Niemeyer’s situation: “He has a bit of a muscular issue.”

Whether or not the duo will be available to take part in Saturday’s test against Trabzonspor in Bremerhaven (kick-off 6pm) is yet to be decided. “We’ll have to see how things develop with them by tomorrow,” explained the 48 year old coach. On a more positive note, Daniel Jensen was able to complete the full team training session on Thursday. Schaaf is now looking forward to his side’s ninth friendly game of their pre-season programme: “I don’t exactly know what way the squad will look on Saturday but we always need the complete squad of players and everyone must be prepared to fulfil the task he is given to 100%.”
