Werder Bremen’s own youth team success Kevin Schindler has been on loan at FC Hansa Rostock since the beginning of July 2008. On Wednesday, 30.07.2008 (7pm kick-off), the striker will face his former team mates at the DKB-Arena. Before the reunion, the 20 year old front man took some time to speak to WERDER.DE.
Kevin, after nine years in Bremen, you have been in Rostock for almost a month now. How are you enjoying the fresh breeze on the Baltic Sea coast?
Kevin Schindler: “It’s quite a strange feeling, playing somewhere else, catching a breath of fresh air and really being away from home. For me personally it has been a giant leap. I mean it’s only a hop and a jump from Bremen to Delmenhorst. Considering I wanted to make this move and that the time is limited, it wasn’t really all that difficult.”
Often the phrase is used that ‘One must take a step backwards in order to make two forwards.” Does that apply to your loan move to FC Hansa?
Kevin Schindler: “I wanted to take this step for me personally and, more importantly, to continue playing at the highest level. And it’s been a good move that can bring me along further. First and foremost it’s a chance to get some match practice, to learn more, tank up on self-confidence and also, on the other hand, it’s an opportunity to gather some experience which will help me to play more regularly when I return to Bremen.”
On Wednesday there will be a brief reunion with some well known faces. Even though it’s against Werder, that won’t make you want to stop the ball on the goal-line, will it?
Kevin Schindler: (laughing) “I haven’t got any bets like that running. To be honest I am a little excited. It’ll be a very interesting clash and a home tie for us that we very much want to win. Maybe I’ll even score – that would really be nice.”
