Under a relatively clear sky and in idyllic surroundings, trainer Thomas Schaaf beckoned his 25 man squad out for their first training session in Schruns, Austria. The complete team cycled the 500 meters from the hotel to the sport facility ‘Wagenweg’, where they then went through a 90 minute programme. As had been announced at lunchtime, the focus was on the tactics within each individual area of the team.
“Move the individuals, move the group,” is the trainers motto for the week in ‘Montafon’. “We need to file on our tactical direction and communication,” explained the Werder coach, who went on to say: “The players need to understand the question - ‘What possibilities and what obligations do I have in which situation?’ They then need to communicate that to their team mates.”
The coach specifically emphasised that their efforts need to be concentrated on the proven Werder system of play. With as little time, and as many players, as Werder’s training team have at their disposal this week in Schruns, there are always strained elements according to Schaaf, in particular we it comes to the basics. In short: Werder’s second training camp has gotten underway according to plan.
