After a week-long stay, Werder Bremen left their training camp on Norderney yesterday. Trainer Thomas Schaaf drew a generally positive conclusion: “Along with the days in Bremen before we came here, we have been through a good programme. The team were concentrated and are harmonising. The new lads are fitting in well.”
There were only a limited number of injuries to dampen spirits. Petri Pasanen was forced to take things somewhat easier due to a slight thigh problem, Niklas Andersen is having some problems with an effusion he picked up in the Fortuna Dusseldorf game whilst both Said Husejinovic and Pascal Testroet were forced to go through a much reduced training programme due to back problems.
Thomas Schaaf described t situation with his strikers as being “Unsatisfactory”: Sanogo initially failed to join his colleagues on Norderney due to a virus but was able to begin with some jogging again in Bremen on Saturday. Hugo Almeida could only manage some individual training on Norderney because of a muscle strain and a knee problem meant that Markus Rosenberg was only partially involved.
“I hope we can get all three of them back to full fitness in time for our second training camp in Schruns,” said Thomas Schaaf, with the next training camp planned for July 23rd through 30th. German national team players Torsten Frings, Clemens Fritz and Per Mertesacker are also due back by then.
