Werder’s press director Tino Polster is once again giving insight into the world of Werder Bremen during their training camp on Norderney and publishing his findings in his personal daily diary on WERDER.DE. There he comments on the most recent happenings amongst the Green-Whites, gives detailed information and tells the odd anecdote from the team and trainer Thomas Schaaf.
Saturday, 19.07.2008, Golfhotel Norderney
9am, the Golfhotel breakfast room: At the trainer’s table, the schedule for the morning sport programme was being finalised (beach jogging, small groups cycling). Some things never change though: driving rain and a hefty wind. Many holiday makers will be jealous of us tomorrow – we’re going home! On Sunday, the team will have a tactical session in the warm and dry hotel before taking the bus to the ferry at 1pm in order to make it to Leer-Loga in time for the clash with Kickers Emden.
The news that the early morning programme for Sunday was to be cancelled was met with a very positive reaction, not least from our ‘Tiger’, goalkeeper coach Michael Kraft, who was sitting next to me at the table. He had his own personal programme planned for the final morning on the island – rolling up under the covers. When the question “What will we do in the morning?” landed at our table, some genuine sport and not a long lie in looked likely to ruin things. ‘Tiger’ had a wonderful idea though: “I’ going to watch breakfast TV in the morning, I don’t know what’s going on in the world.”
It was a nice try at earning some extra time in his bed, but Wolfgang Rolff stopped him in his tracks: “Breakfast TV starts at 6am Tiger!” To rub salt further into Tiger’s wounds, the trainer then piped up: “There is no breakfast TV on Sundays.” The end of the discussion!! For Tiger there was nothing more to look forward to than a pre-7am wake up call again, and that on Sunday.
