On Wednesday, striker Hugo Almeida returned to the training camp on Norderney and will go through a rehabilitation programme there over the coming days. The 24 year old Portuguese international briefly left the island on Tuesday to return to Bremen, where a detailed medical examination revealed a muscular injury. Almeida is now the second striker who is unavailable to coach Thomas Schaaf after Boubacar Sanogo had to delay his return to training due to illness. Surely it was not good news, but not something to create panic amongst the Green-Whites.
The situation with Markus Rosenberg, on the other hand, has improved: “After going through some individual sessions he is now back in full team training. We shall have to wait and see if he is an option for the Fortuna Köln game or if we will have to hold him back until next Sunday,” explained Schaaf.
Despite the losses, the coach doesn’t see the situation with attacking players as being all too threatening. The coach doesn’t see the situation here as being in any way connected with the fact that the club are keeping an eye out for another striker: “In principle we are always on the look-out for good players. If the opportunity to sign another one should arise, then we will do just that – but then he will have to be a player with quality.”
