The ‘Berg (mountain) -tour 2008’ (the name given to the German national sides Alpen mission), is coming to an end, and the summit is in sight. On Sunday, trainer Joachim Löw’s German side will take on Spain in the European Championship final. Werder Bremen’s Clemens Fritz is ready for action, should he be called upon, as the 27 year old explained as he spoke exclusively to WERDER.DE ahead of the big showdown.
Werder.de: How are you feeling with just a day to go before the biggest game in your career?
Clemens Fritz: “I feel good, and I’m looking forward to the game. We know exactly what this game is all about and we want to bring that trophy back to Germany.”
How would you sum-up you performances at the tournament thus far?
Clemens Fritz: “I am satisfied. I made a good start in the tournament and, when involved, I was focused on defensively restricting my opponents whilst attempting to set some attacking impulses. I think I managed that quite well.”
How have you been preparing for the big game?
Clemens Fritz: “Well, we fly to Vienna on Saturday, have one more training session there, and then concentrate fully on the final. We are really fired up for Sunday!!”
Your contract with Werder Bremen is due to expire in July 2009 and, not only due to your EURO 2008 success, you have become a possible target for other clubs. General manager Klaus Allofs has already announced a will to prematurely extend your contract. Do you have any positive signals you can send to the Werder fans?
Clemens Fritz: “I feel very much at home in Bremen. Firstly I want to become European Champion and we will then see what happens after that.”
