After a day and a half of recovery and regeneration on Lago Maggiore, the four Werder Bremen men, and the rest of their German international team mates, began intensive preparations for their EURO semi final clash with Turkey. Right in the middle of things were Torsten Frings, who is still hindered by a broken rib, and central defender Per Mertesacker, who has been recovering from a light cold over the last couple of days.
In order to stabilise and protect his chest and stomach area during the training session, Frings wore a specially manufactured bandage made from carbon. Team manager Oliver Bierhoff commented on the well being of the 31 year old: “We are still working on him. His personal feedback is very good and he is fired up to play,” ensured Bierhoff at the press conference in Tenero but remained cautious regarding possible involvement on Wednesday: “We’ll have to wait and see how he deals with the pressure in challenges. There will be a number of discussions held between the trainer and the medical team.”
Top priority for the formation in this Wednesday’s semi-final clash in Basel, according to the team manager is: “That we only use players who are 100% fit.”
