aBoubacar Sanogo and the Ivory Coast are currently in a good position in their bid to qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals in South Africa. Last weekend, the Werder Bremen striker was away on duty with his national team in what was a top of the table clash in African Qualifying Group 7. The game against Botswana finished in a 1:1 draw.
With the point gained, ‘The Elephants’ remain in second place, level on points with group leaders Botswana. On this coming Sunday, 22.06.2008, Sanogo & Co. can take over the top spot with a win in the return leg against Botswana.
The twelve group winners, as well as the eight best runner-up teams qualify for the third round. The 20 teams will then be broken into five groups of four which will be decided over two legs in each pairing.
