In their third game of the competition, Ivan Klasnic shot Croatia to their third win. In his first European Championships appearance, the Werder Bremen striker scored the only goal of the night against Poland. The win means that Croatia are the first team in the tournament to register a maximum nine points and clearly finish atop Group B.
In the 52nd minute Klasnic was bundled over in the penalty area but found his feet again quickly to reach a low cross from Pranjic on the left edge of the box and slam the ball past the Polish keeper into the bottom right corner. The Croatians didn’t manage to produce much more in the game, particularly after Klasnic was substituted to the sound of rousing applause in the 74th minute: “I came here to perform and not take a holiday. Today I got my chance,” commented the ‘Man of the Match’ Klasnic after the game. “At the end of the day, I am delighted to have scored, although I didn’t take two other good chances.”
