Introduced for the second half, the 20 year old played the vital role in winning the penalty which subsequently led to Austria taking a two goal advantage. But the youngster saved the best for last and crowned his performance late on as he finished off a perfectly worked counter attack to make the final score 5:1.
In an interview with www.oefb.at after the game, Harnik explained just what he was sent out to do: "I was given the task of causing a bit of a stir up front, make the opponent uneasy and force them into challenges." He went on to say: "The coach was right to criticise my performances in training. I wanted to prove to him today just what I am capable of. That worked out well with first winning the penalty and then later making it 5:1."
