Werder Bremen’s Torsten Frings was voted ‘Player of the Month’ for May. The award, initiated by ‘Kicker’ football magazine, DSF (German sport broadcaster) and the Bundesliga, was decided in Frings favour with a massive 48% chunk of the votes cast - some 10% more than second placed Schalke captain Marcelo Bordon.
His former Werder team mate Dieter Eilts honoured the midfielder in ‚Kicker‘ saying: “He has developed into a leader who is prepared to take on responsibility at all times. He proved how important he is to Werder when he returned late on in the closing phase of season. His game is distinguished by his great confidence on the ball. In addition, he is known for making the right decisions on the pitch, setting the pace of play and knowing when to increase or reduce the tempo.”
