Werder Bremen superstar Diego had a very special end of season experience on Monday. Two days after the Green-Whites secured their Champions League participation for next season, the Brazilian playmaker got to enjoy his football in an unusually relaxed atmosphere. At a charity event in Essen, the midfielder joined forces with a number of well known South American players to challenge the German Beach-Soccer team.
Diego was particularly happy to get together with his international team mate, and best friend, Robinho, from Real Madrid. Also involved in the match were Luis Fabiano and Dani Alves from FC Seville, Werder centre half Naldo, Borussia Dortmund’s Dede and Tinga as well as Schalke’s Rafinha. There were a number of other surprise guests just waiting to join in with the international ‘Troop of Stars’ who were coached by non less than Werder trainer Thomas Schaaf.
Aside from just the change of pace, it was also an opportunity for Diego to spend some time with his close relatives who had also made the trip to Essen: “My family is in Bremen at the moment. They will stay for a few days and we will have time to do some things together, such as tennis and my charity tournament. It’ll be a lot of fun!”
