Not even the normally well balanced Werder general manager could sit still on the bench. Klaus Allofs sprang from his seat again and again in despair as his side wasted their chances: “You just get the feeling that this sort of thing can carry consequences - and that’s exactly what happened.”
Unfortunately the former striker was proven to be right on Saturday. KSC took their chances with a stunning level of effectiveness with the result of coming very close to beating Werder in the end: “We were the dominant side for 60 minutes and then suddenly you find yourself behind, then you ask just what has happened,” explained trainer Thomas Schaaf, who was not satisfied with his side’s defensive performance.
“We were not good today in our attempts to avoid conceding goals. Sure KSC had a few chances but we made it easy for them. We knew that KSC were good on the break and we dealt with that badly. We only have ourselves to blame for what happened today”, concluded the trainer.
