Not a pretty win but a win all the same! It was not the kind of win we are used to from Frings, Mertesacker & Co. but it was one that keeps the Green-Whites on Champions League course.

In Rostock, Werder Bremen once again put on a performance with plenty of room for improvement, which the players themselves were willing to admit after the final whistle.
Thomas Schaaf: “The equaliser was a bit of a shock. That made it all the nicer that we did manage to snag all three points. Still, not everything is flowing as it should. We combined well initially but all too often we missed the opportunity to play the ball effectively.”
Klaus Allofs: “We didn’t play well here tonight. We took the lead with a stunner of a strike and then we got lucky to convert the penalty on the rebound. On the whole, tonight we were just a little luckier than Rostock.”
Torsten Frings: “It was absolutely clear to us that Rostock would give their all here. They’ve got their backs to the wall and want to do everything in their power to avoid relegation. Under those circumstances, it wasn’t easy for us either. There is not a worse pitch than this in the Bundesliga and alone that lends the win extra value.”
Petri Pasanen: “At least we can afford to be happy about how the league table looks. Nine points consecutively is fantastic. Our upwards trend since the Berlin game has continued.”
