A satisfied Patrick Owomoyela acknowledged the decision of the Berlin Public Prosecution Office to prosecute Udo Voigt (party leader) and two further NPD (National Democratic Party) functionaries on grounds of public incitement. The trio will be called to answer for the 2006 World Cup planner, a brochure displaying a player with the number 25 on the back of his jersey, then Patrick Owomoyela’s number in the German national team, with the slogan: “White!! Not just the colour of the jersey!! For a real national team! “
Following training on Tuesday, Owomoyela said: “It’s an important signal for me from the Public Prosecution Office that they also believe the case carries enough substance to be taken to the next level. I will discuss with my lawyer whether or not I will act as a joint plaintiff in the future. We are not going to comment further at this stage of a still pending procedure.”
At the time, Patrick Owomoyela, together with his lawyer, effected an interim decree in order to confine the circulation of the World Cup planner. The police seized 70,000 copies of the NPD publication. Owomoyela and the DFB (German Football Federation) both raised criminal complaint charges.
