Peter Niemeyer was back in the Werder Bremen squad for the first time last Sunday as they took on VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga. On Thursday evening, he eventually got a chance to show what he can do on the pitch as the Werder reserves took on Wolfsburg’s second team in the ‘Regionalliga-Nord’ – and it was to be a comeback draped in glory. The 24 year old put on an impressive performance and lent the Green-Whites defence just the stability it needed whilst, at the same time, displaying an impulse to get forward.
“I am delighted to be able to play again after a six month lay-off. I was lacking some pace at times and some of the finer details left a little to be desired but I am quite satisfied”, explained an overjoyed Peter Niemeyer. The Werder U23 coach, Thomas Wolter, was very satisfied with the defenders performance too: “Peter had an excellent game. He really showed his qualities here today.”
