And now it’s official! Ivan Klasnic will once again be active for the Croatian national team. Werder Bremen’s striker has been nominated for the Croatian squad for the first time since his kidney transplant operations. The friendly against Scotland will take place on 26.03.2008. Klasnic hasn’t represented his country since August 2006 and, with that in mind, the front man was ecstatic about the news of the call-up: "This is a fantastic acknowledgement for me. A return to football, and then to the national team, has always been my target during this difficult phase in my life."
The nomination means that the 28 year olds hopes of a possible nomination for the EURO 2008 squad have greatly increased. Unfortunately the centre forward will not have the opportunity to prove his worth when Werder take on Glasgow Rangers in their UEFA Cup return leg tie on Thursday evening. A muscular injury is keeping Klasnic out of the reckoning: "I’ve put my hopes of participating in Thursday’s game out of my mind but I do hope to be able to return to full team training possibly at the end of the week. Should that be the case, then I have a chance of playing against Wolfsburg."
