There is no question about Saturday’s ‘Man of the Match’: Markus Rosenberg scored the deciding brace in the 2:0 win over BVB with a combination of style and sheer power.

There is no question about Saturday’s ‘Man of the Match’: Markus Rosenberg scored the deciding brace in the 2:0 win over BVB with a combination of style and sheer power. The 1:0, right on the stroke of half-time, was a curious one even for the scorer himself: "I had the feeling that I was in an offside position and hoped that the ball would go in without my influence. When I realised that that wasn’t going to happen, I decided to go for it. I felt my opposing player behind me so I choose to allow the ball to pass me and turn it over the line with my heel."

Offside or not, the goal counted and it was to prove just the spark needed to ignite the team after a sluggish first half. "It was a very important goal for us, it stabilised us and afterwards we dominated the tie", explained Markus Rosenberg, who went on to crown an impressive second half performance with his second goal: "The second goal was a nice one too. I was able to trick my way past two players and then I knew I would need a hard and well placed shot because the opponents had a good, and tall, keeper in goal. That worked out for me too", commented the striker who enjoyed his 90 minutes against BVB.

The rest of the Swede’s colleagues were equally happy about the golden touch of the striker: "I was particularly happy about the second goal because he showed then just what he is capable of. That is exactly the sort of movement that I consider his strength. He absolutely rules in one-on-one situations followed by a strike on goal", explained stand-in captain Per Mertesacker and trainer Thomas Schaaf was full of praise for the performance of Rosenberg: "He has gotten himself involved very impressively recently, always searching for a way through, working very hard and continually causing problems." The journalists at the Weser Stadium were in agreement and bestowed the ‘Citibank Man of the Match’ award on Rosenberg.
