To slightly exaggerate the point, one could say that the only really consistent element of the season thus far for Borussia Dortmund, has been wins over Werder Bremen. Of course there were only two games but that in itself speaks volumes. Going into Saturday’s game, BVB are riding the crest of a wave and it’s a force always to be reckoned with.
Werder know that only too well! The Green-Whites were merely present on the park as Borussia hit with some perfectly executed counter attacks to beat, non-less demoralise, Bremen 3:0 early in the season. Even as the better team, Werder again fell foul of the ‘Black and Yellows’ back in January to be eliminated from the DFB Cup - another Dortmund win!
“We have the chance to make up for the two defeats now and it is important to keep the two previous games this season in mind as we prepare to face them again on Saturday”, remarked Werder coach Thomas Schaaf, who feels he has learned from his sides errors: “We can’t allow them to create so many chances and we need to make our superiority visible in the score line.”
Schaaf’s opinion is not the only one swimming through the minds of the players from Germany’s second placed team though: “It is clear to see that everyone has been thinking about just how we lost the last two games to them”, admitted the trainer. There is an element of reflection echoing around the Bremen camp at the moment - the time has come to put things right!
