Werder Bremen midfielder Jurica Vranjes has signed a three year contract extension to keep him at the club until at least 30.06.2011. On Thursday evening, the Croatian international and general manager Klaus Allofs finalised the terms of the agreement. The 28 year old explained to WERDER.TV: "There is not a better club in Europe for me! The team has great prospects and we can continually play amongst the top clubs yet still remain a family. Bremen has become a second home to me."
On the sporting level, the Croatian feels right at home in the north German city: "Before renewing my contract, I spoke to the trainer to get a view of my personal sporting outlook here and I am convinced that I will continue play a regular part." The experienced international is not at all worried about the competition for places: "If we want to be involved in all competitions in the long term, we need at least 17 or 18 players of the same level battling for places", Vranjes told WERDER.TV.
Jurica Vranjes had played in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen and VfB Stuttgart before making the move to Werder Bremen in the summer of 2005 where he has since become a vital member of the team. From his 165 Bundesliga appearances, 71 have been over the last two and a half years in the Werder shirt and he has scored five goals along the way. He was a League Cup winner with the Green-Whites in 2006.
