On Thursday evening, Werder Bremen will travel to Sporting Braga in the hope of securing a place in the last 16 of the UEFA Cup. Not only the Green-Whites clear 3:0 win in the first leg will make them confident on their trip to Portugal but they will feel extra optimistic considering Braga’s current form.
Sporting’s relatively strong home record took a battering at the weekend as they slipped to a 2:3 defeat to Vitoria Setubal - it was the third Super-Liga game in succession without a win for Werder’s up-coming opponents after two previous draws.
Against Setubal, Sporting found themselves behind, on their own turf, after just eleven minutes but in the 25th minute, Roland Linz drew his side back level. Just before the break, Victoria went in front again and Elias pretty much settled the tie, making it 1:3 in the 77th minute. Jailson’s goal for the home side in the 93rd reduced the deficit but it was too, little too late for Braga who remain in eighth place in the table and struggling to make a UEFA Cup spot for next season.
