In the Bundesliga’s top game on Sunday evening, Werder Bremen drew 1:1 (1:1) with FC Bayern Munich to take a well earned point. In a truly entertaining tie, the Green-Whites took the lead through Diego after six minutes but just past the half hour mark, the league leaders were back level thanks to a Zé Roberto strike, and that after Tim Wiese had denied Luca Toni from the penalty-spot.

Werder caught the league leaders napping with just six minutes played. The visitors had made a quick break from the back and Markus Rosenberg played an inch perfect pass from the left directly into the path of Diego who had made a burst into the box. The Brazilian slipped past his marker and took a quick glance to check the keepers positioning before bending the ball around Oliver Kahn into the far corner to make it 1:0.

A very evenly matched tie ensued, with both sides aggressively looking to break forward. It was the home side who were looking most dangerous in the first period and they were eventually rewarded for their efforts with a goal from Zé Roberto, to finish off a well worked Bayern move, in the 32nd minute.

Eight minutes prior to scoring the equaliser, Tim Wiese saved a Luca Toni penalty much to the frustration of the home fans. After the break, neither side were able to re-kindle the pace or intensity of the first period, and the game began to lose its way with Werder settling back to defend their away point early on - and the tactic proved successful.
