This weekend’s game will be the 38 year old referees ninth time in charge of a game involving the Green-Whites. During the 2006/2007 season, Weiner refereed as Werder thumped VfL 6:0, his last match in charge of Schaaf’s men was on the 31st match day of last season when Werder slumped to defeat against Armenia Bielefeld.
Bochum will be expecting a rough time of it on Sunday, after having spoiled the Green-Whites party on the opening day of the season. Bremen took a 2:0 lead into the break thanks to goals from Diego (39) and Boubacar Sanogo (45+1) but in the second period, VfL were quickly back in the tie early on through Stanislav Sestak (47’) and two minutes later drew level with a goal from Tommy Bechmann. The game finished 2:2 and Werder returned to Bremen with decidedly less than expected.
