Leon Andreasen has left Werder Bremen and will play for FC Fulham in England’s Premier League with immediate effect. Once the 24 year old had agreed on a termination of his current contract with the Werder bosses, his future club from London settled the rest of the loose ends with the Green-Whites to complete the transfer.
Werder general manager Klaus Allofs commented on the background to the move: “Leon didn’t see the possibility of winning a first team place with Werder Bremen very positively. He had mentioned the will to move on a number of occasions and we have granted his wish. We were able to agree upon a satisfactory transfer price with FC Fulham.” Allofs went on to say: “We have always seen him as a quality player but he has unfortunately suffered set backs through injury and suspension of late.”
Trainer Thomas Schaaf said: “Leon was always a little impatient and ahead of himself. Now he would like to take a chance somewhere else. Although he may not have played as often as he would have wished here, he certainly could have continued to develop. We wish him all the best in the Premier League.”
Leon Andreasen, who is already in London, arrived in Bremen in 2005 as captain of the Danish U21 selection whilst playing for club side Aarhus GF and signed an initial deal with Werder until 30.06.2009. Over the following three seasons he made 31 appearances in the Green-White of Werder , scoring twice. With competition for places seriously tough in the Werder midfield, Andreasen went to FSV Mainz 05 for a loan spell between January and June 2007 where he impressed, scoring four times in fifteen games but was unable to help the club avoid the drop. This season the Dane has made ten Bundesliga appearances, with just one over the complete 90 minutes.
