A medical examination in Bremen on Tuesday morning diagnosed that German international Torsten Frings looks likely to be out of action for a further six weeks after suffering damage to knee ligaments. “He felt something in training on Monday and this morning, doctors detected a tear to the inner ligaments of the right knee”, explained Thomas Schaaf of the current status of Torsten Frings.
The midfield anchor is clearly frustrated about this further set back: “I feel like I’m just being cursed by bad luck. I just can’t explain it, I had no problems until yesterday”, remarked Frings who has now a further bout of rehabilitative training ahead of him. The player himself didn’t want to speculate on the possible length of his absence: “I know from my time in Dortmund that these things can heel quicker than the doctors expect. A couple of weeks can go by very quickly”, said an optimistic vice-captain.
Frings missed out on the bulk of the first half of the Bundesliga season with knee problems. The midfield man had initially injured himself in a pre-season friendly against SC Paderborn. He returned in October in the Champions League against Olympiacos Piraeus but just three weeks later was forced out again with an injury to the same knee. Frings returned to the field, after a lengthy period of recovery, just last Saturday at the Winter-Cup in Dusseldorf.
