Daniel Jensen is staying put at Werder Bremen. . On Tuesday afternoon, the Danish international signed a new contract with the Green-Whites to keep him on the Weser until 30.06.2011. The announcement was made by Werder general manager Klaus Allofs.

“We are absolutely that we were able to agree on a further cooperation with Daniel Jensen so quickly. He has played his way into the forefront in recent months and consistently delivered good performances”, commented Allofs on the contract extension.

On a sporting level, trainer Thomas Schaaf is very happy to be able to continue working with the Dane: “Daniel has continually shown this season what he allowed up to see sporadically during his time here. He is an important member of the team. We now have the opportunity to continue down this road with Daniel.”

Daniel Jensen said: “Of course I’m delighted to be able to carry on playing for Werder Bremen. I am absolutely convinced that I have the best chance of sporting success here. That was Werder’s big plus. There had been interest from other clubs, who had even made better offers, but I want to be involved in achieving great things here.”

Daniel Jensen has been at Werder Bremen since 15.07.2004. Back then, the versatile midfielder arrived on the Weser from Spanish side Real Murica and since has made 87 Bundesliga appearances, scoring six and providing a further 16 assists.

The 28 year old from Danish capital of Copenhagen has developed into a vital member of the Werder squad, in particular this season, and has impressed with his flexibility in the centre of the park. This season alone, the Dane has appeared in 16 games and operated in every midfield role. One of his personal highlights was the Champions League qualifier against Dinamo Zagreb, during which he scored the 2:1 winner, and as one of the men of the match as Werder beat Real Madrid 3:2 . On the international front, Jensen has won 23 caps for his country and scored one goal.
