At the end of the current season, Tim Borowski will leave Werder Bremen and head off to continue his career with FC Bayern Munich.

At the end of the current season, Tim Borowski will leave Werder Bremen and head off to continue his career with FC Bayern Munich. The midfielder announced the news to general manager Klaus Allofs and trainer Thomas Schaaf at the trainings camp in Belek, Turkey on Sunday evening. The 28 year olds contract expires on 30.06.2008 which allows him to leave Bremen on a free transfer.

Klaus Allofs wasn’t all too surprised by the news: “We made Tim an offer last year but he decided against entering into negotiations. When a players who is part of the German national team becomes available, then you have to expect these sort of developments. In this case we can and wish to operate within a pre-arranged financial framework.” Thomas Schaaf regrets the loss of his midfielder: “It’s a pity. We would have liked to have continued to work with Tim but we must accept the development.”

Borowski joined the Werder Bremen youth team from 1. FC Neubrandenburg back in 1996 and has been in the full professional squad since 2001. In that time he has made 157 Bundesliga appearances and scored 21 goals and was part of the 2004 double winning set-up. He has made 31 full international appearances for the German national side and scored twice for his country. Borowski was part of the German squad which finished in third place at the 2006 World Cup but has since then been plagued by injury which has cost him dearly and left him struggling for a regular place for club and country. The midfield man has played in just 26 of the 51 Bundesliga games since summer 2006 and only eleven of those over the complete 90 minutes.
