The half-time tea was revitalising, the team talk emotional and the show very entertaining but the time has come for the second half of the www.werder.de 2007 Live-Ticker to bring you those memorable moments of the last year.

46th minute:On match day 17, Christian Timm of Karlsruhe SC made it 1:0 for his side against HSV. Although the Hamburg club levelled before the end, Werder’s 5:2 win over Bayer Leverkusen on the final match day before the winter break was enough to see the Green-Whites leap frog their northern rivals into second spot with a two point jump.
57th minute: Again Werder had their noses in front against HSV. As Hugo Almeida converted a counter attack against Hertha BSC Berlin, the Bremen club reached the magical 2,500 goal mark in the Bundesliga – HSV celebrated the same feat some twenty minutes later.
60th minute: Those who can recall Diego’s first game at the Weser Stadium in August 2006 will remember how he was denied an unforgettable over-head kick goal by Leverkusen keeper Jörg Butt. The little Brazilian tried the same again a year later against VfB Stuttgart when he took the ball on his chest, with his back to goal, and swivelled in the air to make an almost perfect connection. The ball zipped just centimetres over the crossbar as the whole of the stadium held it’s breath in awe. The Green-White faithful have but one wish – “Try it again Diego – Third time lucky”.
64th minute: It was one of the bitterest moments in 2007 for Werder Bremen. The game against Celta Vigo was hardly memorable although the Green-Whites did take the lead in the second half after a very poor first 45 minutes. In the 64th minute, Patrick Owomoyela came on in place of Jurica Vranjes and a frustrated Werder crowd unleashed their anger at a poor team performance on the departing Croatian. Vranjes would produce an answer to his doubters in the next home game as Werder beat Mainz 2:0 with a goal and an assist from the Croat.
66th minute: Assist by Max Kruse. Max Kruse??? The 19 year old has been on Werder’s books since January 2006. Having broken into the U23 side in his second season at the club, the youngster made his Bundesliga debut in the 62nd minute against Armenia Bielefeld. Kruse won the ball in midfield and provided the pass for Markus Rosenberg’s first goal of the season.
69th minute: Once upon a time....Martin Harnik was the name of the youngster thrown into the deep end by trainer Thomas Schaaf on the third match day of the season and after just eight minutes of action the young front man had made his mark on the tie and the Bundesliga making it 1:0 after an impressive solo run.
71st minute: The 3:0 against Ajax Amsterdam in the UEFA Cup opener was to see the only goal scored by Torsten Frings for Werder in this year. A couple of months later the midfield man was very open about a flirt with Italian giants Juventus Turin. Following Werder’s 2:0 win against Borussia Dortmund, the German international confirmed he was to travel to Turin to get a closer look at the situation. In May though, Werder’s midfield engine signed a contract extension in Bremen stating: “I had a great offer from Juventus but realised that Werder is a matter of the heart for me.”
79th minute: ‘Sacré Bleu’ – The ability of a little French winger left a nation astounded. As Bayern Munich notched up a stunning 4:0 win at the Weser Stadium, Franck Ribéry stole the headlines with a wonderful display of ball control, duping Christian Schulz with exquisite confidence before setting up the visitors third. By the end of the year though it was Werder’s playmaker stealing all the headlines and overtaking the French international in both skill and, more importantly, effectiveness.
81st minute: Ah yes, Christian Schulz. The full-back’s substitution ten minutes before the end of the game in Zagreb would be his last involvement as a Werder player. After 13 years in Bremen, ‘Schulle’ opted to take on a new challenge with Hanover 96 and was in the Lower Saxon capital just two days later to make his debut for the ‘Reds’. It was a fond farewell that Schulz received from the Werder faithful.
86th minute: Hugo Almeida’s late 1:0 against Celta Vigo was celebrated all across Germany by Werder fans following the live ticker and listening to the radio. The Spaniard’s had failed to come to terms with a German television broadcaster on the rights to show the game and with the screens blank – it was just like the good old days as the Green-Whites followers gathered around the wireless.
90+2 minutes: More news from Diego. The 1,74m midfielder scored an equaliser with his head for Brazil against England at the newly opened Wembley Stadium. It was Diego’s first full international goal in his first full international appearance – and that at the massive new national stadium in the birth place of the sport.
After the final whistle: The special rivalry between Werder Bremen and Schalke 04 was clear to see after the final whistle at the Veltins-Arena on the 11th match day of the season in a game which ended 1:1. The Werder bus had just started its journey back north when Schalke fan Edith T. crashed her vehicle into the Green-White team bus and although an accident, it was a little reminder of how serious the S04 lot are about their football.
