Aleksandar Ignjovski had been working on the training grounds with teammates for more than a week and on Thursday Werder's Serbian international learned he would be travelling to the match at VfL Wolfsburg. "Aleks Ignjovski is pretty much back to full strength since his injury so that he will be on the squad against Wolfsburg," said head coach Robin Dutt at the mid-day press conference.
‘Iggy' recently missed both the games in Stuttgart and against Nuremberg with a calf muscle fibre tear. And the Freiburg home match last Saturday came too early for him to play despite having returned to training.
Nils Petersen and Franco Di Santo are not options at all for the match at Wolfsburg. The Argentinean, who is labouring with a muscle fibre tear, has gone through running drills since Sunday but nothing more. "I am doing good and I am rehabbing from my injury. What's important is that everything completely heals," said the striker.
With the no-shows in the attack, there are minutes available for other strikers. One potential candidate according to Dutt is Melvyn Lorenzen. "It's unclear if he will get a chance in the starting line-up. There are a lot of other candidates," said the 48-year-old Dutt, not showing his hand ahead of the Wolfsburg match.
Dutt did however have to do without the young Werder talent in the closed-door session Thursday. "We could not check which position Melvyn could play today because school is more important. He's taking an exam tomorrow and of course has my full support. But he will be back with the team for the final training on Friday," said Dutt about Lorenzen missing training Thursday.
