As opposed to other teammates, the season is not quite over for Aleksandar Ignjovski. While captain Clemens Fritz and most of the Werder team are regenerating for next season, Iggy and the Serbian national team will be facing a do-or-die game in their World Cup 2014 qualification on Friday 7 June 2013 at 8:45 p.m. The Werder defender and Serbia will take on Belgium knowing they only have slim chances of advancing to Brazil - and only with a victory over Belgium, who have good chances of making the World Cup.
"Media and fans do not really believe in us anymore. But we as a team and the coaches think that we can still do it," said the 22-year-old Ignjovski, who has been with Werder since 2011. The game is also of interest because it's a showdown of Werder teammates as Ignjovski will be playing against Kevin De Bruyne. "I don't care today who we are playing against. The only thing that matters is the match. We want to take three points. We don't have too many chances. It's almost like a do-or-die match," said Iggy.
Once the final whistle is blown at about 10:30 p.m., Iggy will certainly be heading back to his homeland. "I will be spending my holidays in Serbia," said Ignjovski, who will have another highlight - this one a private one. "I will be getting married on 16 June." He is also looking forward to next season. "It's going to start soon. I don't know the coach and his team yet but have only heard positive things about him. I hope that we get along to prepare optimally for the season. I am looking forward to it."
