There was some good news for Werder Bremen as Aaron Hunt and Marko Arnautovic both trained with the team on Tuesday. The midfielder Hunt had missed four months with adductors problems and had only trained individually including running drills and easy training with the ball.
Despite the long break it was as if the 25-year-old had never been gone. He dished out balls, set up the attack, ran a lot and showed a lot of determination. "My first training went well. Everything is okay," said Hunt. "I hope that now I can only train with the team." Arnautovic's opinion of his first session following his knee injury was as followed: "Perfect!"
Hunt can even imagine making an appearance against Bayern Munich on Saturday. "If nothing goes wrong, I should be there. I wasn't able to play for four months. The anticipation now of course is really high that I can get back to the pitch soon," said Hunt.
Head coach Thomas Schaaf wants to wait the rest of the week before deciding who will play against Bayern and who will not. "Now we have to see how the players are doing. It has happened often enough that a player returns to training but has problems again or cannot get back to 100 percent fitness," said the coach.
In addition to the injured Marko Marin, Aleksander Ignjovski was also out of training on Tuesday with Schaaf instead allowing Leon Balogun and Clemens Schopenhauer from Werder's U23 team to practice with the professionals. Missing so many regular players is not always something negative for the coach. "It's always the case that the starters have to defend their position and the reserves must fight to get a starting spot. If a player is able to motivate himself enough and showcase what he can do, then it doesn't mean he is weaker," said Schaaf.
