Aaron Hunt went through an emotional rollercoaster last Saturday, one day before the 98th North Derby against Hamburg. Initially, the 26-year-old playmaker was happy that he had overcome his cold in time for the final training with his teammates. But shortly thereafter he suffered a muscle problem in his thigh, meaning he would miss the bus trip to Hamburg and an appearance in Sunday's match.
"Of course it wasn't easy to watch the game from outside and not being able to help the team," said Hunt on Monday. Just hours after the bitter 3-2 loss against Hamburg, Werder's longest current serving player was able to complete an easy running session with his teammates on Monday. "It's a lot better," said Hunt, who went through an individual running program with athletics coach Reinhard Schnittker later in the day. Hunt's plan is to return to team training by the middle of the week. "Maybe it will happen tomorrow already. We have to wait and see how I deal with today's training," said Hunt cautiously optimistic.
