The training week ahead of the important away match at Hertha Berlin (Friday 13 December 2013 at 8:30 p.m.) has started. And it's kicked off with a happy "comeback". After the Werder players had already trained about 45 minutes, Sebastian Prödl showed up on the pitch for his "training comeback".

The Austrian international had missed a number of weeks with a right thigh muscle injury but was back on the Bremen pitch during Tuesday's session. Together with Predrag Stevanovic, ‘Basti' completed an individual training program. The centre back went through a number of sprint drills and also did a bit of light kicking. "I'm doing well. It's moving forward slowly. Now we have to see how the muscle reacts to the stress and how I can increase my training workload," Prödl told WERDER.DE. "Depending on how the muscle reacts, I can return fully to training earlier or later. But it's realistic that I will be back in full by Christmas."

Werder's deputy captain Aaron Hunt meanwhile missed the start of the training week. The offensive midfielder is dealing with a cold. "We have to see tomorrow how Aaron it doing and if he can come back to training," said head coach Robin Dutt after the end of training.

But there was a training debut for Werder as 18-year-old Luca-Milan Zander practiced with the professionals for the first time. The Weyhe-born right back is still eligible to play with the U19s but has already played a few matches with Werder's U23s in the Regionalliga Nord league. That makes Zander the seventh youngster who has trained with the first team following Aycicek, Sternberg, Selke, Kobylanski, von Haacke and Rehfeldt.
