Werder's deputy captain Aaron Hunt has been nominated for the Fair Play Prize of German sports. "I have already recommended him in writing as a candidate and am certain that Hunt will be awarded this prize," said Harald Denecken, president of the German Olympic Society (DOG) told Sport Bild.
The basis for the nomination is Hunt's behavior last weekend at Nuremberg. Referee Manuel Gräfe showed to the point in the 75th minute after Nuremberg's Javier Pinola apparently fouled Hunt in the box. The 27-year-old Hunt got up immediately and signaled to Gräfe that he had not been hit and Gräfe called off the penalty. The gesture even received international attention afterwards.
The Fair Play Prize is awarded annually together by the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI), the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) and the Association of German Sports Journalists (VDS).
