The first 10 Bundesliga match days could hardly have gone better for Werder's Aaron Hunt. The 26-year-old is the Green-Whites' leading scorer with five goals and two assists and is playing well alongside the newly-former Bremen midfield with Arnautovic, Elia and Co. And following the injury to captain Clemens Fritz, Hunt has worn the leader's armband for the past three matches. Before the match at Schalke 04 on Saturday 10 November 2012 (kick-off at 3:30 p.m.), Hunt spoke about his team's chances in Gelsenkirchen and his increased responsibility in the team.
With seven points in their last three matches, Werder have returned to success. What reasons are there for the clear improvement in form since the 3-1 defeat in Augsburg?
Aaron Hunt: In the away match against Fürth, we could have gotten more than just a draw and our performance against Gladbach was very good. The match against Gladbach helped us because we saw what we could do.
You yourself seem to be in the form of your life at the moment. Where has this drastic improvement come from?
Aaron Hunt: I don't think I am really in my top form. I wouldn't consider it that high. I feel really good in my role at the moment on the pitch and profit that the team is in a really good form and working well. Others profit from that as well - not just me.
Before the season there was a big change in the squad. How would you describe the development of the radically new-formed Werder team? What is really working well and where is there still work to be done?
Aaron Hunt: What's really working well is the attack because we are very flexible and have a lot of players who can create danger in front of the goal. Where things are still bumpy is the conceding goals. We have allowed too many and too easy of goals.
On Saturday, the team faces the second placed Schalke 04. Werder have suffered big defeats the last two years (4-0 and 5-0), both being fantastic showings by Raul. How happy are you that the Spanish star is not playing for Schalke? What can Werder do in the match?
Aaron Hunt: Whether Raul plays there or not doesn't matter to us. We have not played so well at Schalke in the past. But that is certainly extra motivation for us to do better. I believe that if we call up all of our potential that we can get some points.
