SV Werder finish off the mid-week stretch on Saturday evening with an away match at VfL Wolfsburg which means there will be a reunion with some Werder players. In addition to Naldo and Kevin De Bruyne, Aaron Hunt is another former Werder player now playing with the Wolves. After 10 years and 215 Bundesliga matches for the Green-Whites, this will be the former Bremen deputy captain's first match against his former club. "It will be a strange feeling," said Hunt in a talk with WERDER.DE.
Hello Aaron. After 10 years as a professional with Werder, you have been with VfL Wolfsburg since 1 July. How has the time with your new club been?
Aaron Hunt: "I needed some time to get used to things here. But that's normal whenever you're with a club for a long time. The way things are run here are a bit different. Every coach has his own ideas. I knew a bit from Werder that there can also be differences. For me, it's therefore a difference because it's an entirely new environment. But now I am used to things and satisfied."
On the weekend, there is the big reunion with your old teammates. How much are you looking forward to taking on your former team after 13 Bundesliga matches for Werder against Wolfsburg?
Aaron Hunt: "I am really looking forward to it. I'm looking forward to the fans, the old teammates and everyone else. Even though I haven't been gone long, it will be special to see the old teammates. But there are also mixed feelings."
How so?
Aaron Hunt: "It's a strange concept of playing against one of the only clubs I have played for. Playing against Werder for the first time will be very unusual for me. But I really won't have that feeling until Saturday when both teams are on the pitch."
Will you have a lot of friends from Bremen in the stadium on Saturday?
Aaron Hunt: "Quite a few have said they are coming. But most of them will not be for my current team, I can definitely say that. But that is also absolutely okay (laughs)."
With the threat of damaging your friendships, you are probably hoping for a home victory, no?
Aaron Hunt: "Of course. It's football. Now I am playing for Wolfsburg and I want the best for the club. Even though things haven't gone optimally for Werder to start the season, I am hoping for a home victory."
